How Much Does an Air Conditioner Cost?
There are several variables that will determine the cost of an air conditioner installation. Below are like for like replacement costs, for an air conditioner and coil only, on average. It is necessary for us to perform a free in home estimate to give an exact estimate on site.
- Most air conditioners are paired with a gas furnace. If your gas furnace is fairly new, you may not need to replace it. If both units are nearing the end of their lifespans, it would be more cost effective to replace them both at the same time.
- The installation process for a new air conditioner can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours depending on if we need to also replace the coil at the furnace.
- Cost on a single speed/stage, 2 to 5 ton air conditioner with a new coil, and new copper lines to connect the coil to the A/C, with like to like equipment, will start at $8,000 to $12,000.
- If you are shopping for 2 stage or variable speed equipment, we have several options available and will require an in home estimate.
- During our free in home estimate, you can expect our comfort consultant to determine the correct tonage needed, and to inform and educate you on the equipment that will best fit your needs and perform properly in your home. An electronic estimate will be put together while we are on site for most projects.

When you choose Area Heating & Cooling for your a/c installation we take care of all the details:
- Pull mechanical permit.
- Schedule high voltage connections with our electrician.
- Schedule any plumbing needs.
- Schedule any sheetrock or structural repairs if needed.
- Request duct testing & duct cleaning schedules if needed.
- Schedule and coordinate county, city, and state inspections.
- Submit any financing paperwork.
- Register all of your equipment’s manufacturer warranty.
Our team of experienced installers will send you an electronic notification that they are on the way to your home. Upon arrival they will go over the details of the job with you and confirm equipment locations. We will treat your home with care and wear shoe covers and lay drop cloths in areas we are working. We take every precaution to ensure that all drains are installed with extra safety features that go beyond the normal installation practices.
After the installation is completed we will go over the operations of your new air conditioner and answer any questions you may have.
